The timing was strange to say the least. As Isobel Thompson reports at Vanity Fair drumpf and his extended crime family were writing the lying response to the NYT’s report of Don Jr.s’s meeting with the Russian lawyer at Trump Tower as they jetted across the Atlantic coming back from the G20 this past weekend.
Hours before Trump had met with Putin and it was variously reported that he had, or had not, or who knows, confronted Vlad with some Americans’ concerns about his mucking about in our election.
Matthew Yglesias wonders if perhaps Putin’s pound puppy may have yapped too loudy.
“Indeed, though this seems somewhat far-fetched, it’s at least possible that the whole reason these emails are coming to light now is that the Russians wanted them out.
Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, after all, just had a somewhat unorthodox summit meeting that was held to a very small group of people — so small as to exclude National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster and other conventional members of the American national security establishment. We don’t really know what went down at that meeting, or what inspired Trump’s tweets about a joint US-Russian cybersecurity task force, or what spurred Trump to counter-tweet shortly thereafter disavowing the idea.
But maybe the meeting didn’t go well. Maybe Putin didn’t hear what he wanted to hear.”
Which begs the question: Who in the White House, who could be considered a reliable source for the NYTs, could be also in the thrall of Putin, so much so that they might have dropped the dime on Jr. (and so on dear old Dad) at Putin’s behest to save their own exposed asses?
And, if this conjecture be true, what would they do to the Nation, to what depths would they plunge, to avoid the wrath of Vlad?
We are deep in the weeds, folks, and apparently without allies with neither, one or the other, enough power or Patriotism in the Congress to protect the country.
If Putin pulled the strings on this we could be well and truly fuct.
