I didn’t see Trump speak today, so I’ve formed my opinion based on the prepared text of his remarks, which is dangerous... I know. I understand from reading Mark Sumner's excellent diary on the speech, for example, that Trump said the Orlando shooter was born in “Afghan”. This is a departure from the prepared text… his writers wanted him to say:
“The killer, whose name I will not use, or ever say, was born to Afghan parents who immigrated to the United States. His father published support for the Afghan Taliban, a regime which murders those who don’t share its radical views. The father even said he was running for President of that country.”
In his piece, Mark did an excellent job, better than the TV Nooz bunch will ever do, of pointing out the factual inaccuracies of Trumps remarks; to which I say, in the immortal words of Bill Murray in “Meatballs”…
“It just doesn’t matter.”
