Prince Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and a member of the Jordanian royal family, called out Israel today for it’s treatment of Palestinians effectively imprisoned in the Gaza Strip.

“UN human rights chief Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein has slammed Israel for its treatment of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. He said its response to recent protests was "wholly disproportionate."

Israel has been keeping 1.9 million Palestinians "caged in a toxic slum from birth to death" in the Gaza Strip, UN human rights chief Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein told a special session of the Human Rights Council on Friday.

His remarks come as the council began considering a draft resolution on sending an international war crimes probe to Gaza to investigate deadly shootings of protesters by Israeli forces.”

al-Hussein’s comments should not be controversial to any objective observer, but the cousin of King Abdullah of Jordan has stirred controversy before, once called Trump a bus driver “careening down a mountain path.”

I think we can all second that.

His propensity to tell the unvarnished truth, and his unwillinnessg to stop doing so, has led him to not seek another term as High Commissioner when his appointment expires in August:

“NEW YORK — The United Nations’ top human rights official, a sharp critic of US President Donald Trump, declared Wednesday that he will not tone down his message to seek re-election in his post.

Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, told staff in an email he would not bargain away his agency’s integrity when his job comes up for renewal in August.

Earlier this week, in an interview with AFP, the Jordanian prince had rejected the idea of “wheeling and dealing” with political players to secure a second four-year term in Geneva.

And in an email to staff, seen by AFP, he wrote: “After reflection, I have decided not to seek a second four-year term” adding that “in the current geo-political context,” to stay “might involve bending a knee in supplication; muting a statement of advocacy.”

If Trump had a lick of damn sense, which we know he doesn’t, he would heed the counsel of the Jordanians and seek to restrain Bibi and the IDF before they inflame the entire Middle East.

But a Mid-East in flames is more to the liking of drumpf’s new war cabinet and his know nothing Evangelical base, who are pulling his strings when Putin isn’t….
