Will Ferrell had quite a return to Saturday Night Live last night, showing off his song and dance chops, fake bleeding on the audience and portraying a Top Gun inspired jet jockey whose call name was “Clown Penis”...which has got to be a touch self-referential…

But he was at his best as W, walking us down memory lane to remind us, no matter how unreservedly we despise the current occupant of 1600, that he and his merry band of war criminals weren’t much better, and, maybe ***dodges shoes*** even worse…

NY Times

When Will Ferrell returns to host “Saturday Night Live” these days, two questions promptly come to mind: How soon is he going to play President George W. Bush? And then what will he do?

“You might remember, the W. stands for wassssup,” and said that he had lately been working on his oil paintings and earning an online M.F.A. from the University of Phoenix.

Noting W’s current rise in popularity, Ferrell noted:

“That’s right. Donny Q. Trump came in, and suddenly I’m looking pretty sweet by comparison. At this rate, I might even end up on Mount Rushmore, right next to Washington, Lincoln and I want to say, uh, Kensington?”

“I just wanted to address my fellow Americans tonight and remind you guys that I was really bad — like, historically not good.”

“Don’t forget, we’re still in two different wars that I started. What has two thumbs and created ISIS? This guy.”

Bolstering the case for just how terrible W was he showed a chart of the 2008 market melt down and quipped...

“I’m no economer, but even I know, that was no bueno.”

Mike Pence?

“Some say Mike Pence is heartless. But remember, Dick Cheney was literally heartless. At this point, it’s just Legos in there.”

Noting the pumkin prez’s disdain for “fake news” Ferrell/W wondered how he would cope with the penny loafer press, as when an upset Iraqi reporter launched Brogan Missiles at him during a press conference...

“But you know what they say: ‘Shoe me once, the shoe’s on you,’” Mr. Ferrell said. “‘Shoe me twice, I’m keeping those shoes.’

“Reassuring viewers that he was “not a Trump synthesizer or anything,” Mr. Ferrell noted that Presidents Bush and Trump had “a lot in common.” They are the same age, for example, and they both won presidential elections while losing the popular vote.

“Though, back in my day, we didn’t let Russians rig our elections,” he added. “We used the Supreme Court, like Americans.”

Heh.

How bad are things that many Americans look back in fondness at this guy?
