Haitian Ambassador to U.S. Responds to Trump: "Our Country Deserves Your Respect, Not Your Pity"

Haitian Ambassador Paul Altidor penned an Op-Ed for The New York Times this weekend in which he tried to educate the Resident (good luck with that, Paul) and drive from the pretender’s diseased, atrophied gray matter his reported notion that Haitians “All Have AIDS”.

Like so much of what knocks around in the menace’s near empty skull, the notion that Haitians are somehow more susceptible to AIDS is based on erroneous, racist, lies (which drumpf contracts like fleas) Haitians were slandered with by officials at Reagan’s C.D.C. back in the ‘80s, lies that later had to be retracted.

But never one to let new facts stand in the way of the cherished racist tropes that make up a good deal of his stunted worldview, drumpf reportedly regurgitated the lie earlier last year when reviewing visas issued to travelers to the U.S.

Mr. Altidor wished to educate the idiot about a few things:

“Haiti has been a vibrant, steadfast hemispheric partner since its birth. Hundreds of Haitian soldiers fought in the Siege of Savannah alongside American troops to battle British imperialists in the Revolutionary War. Sparked by this nation’s commitment to independence and freedom, Haiti soon followed with its own revolution, throwing off the shackles of slavery and colonialism. Thus, Haiti and the United States represent two of the oldest republics in the hemisphere, bound by dignity and a pursuit of freedom for our peoples.

The Haitian-American population has made significant contributions to American culture and the United States’ economy. Jean Baptiste Point du Sable, a Haitian man, founded the city of Chicago in the 18th century. W.E.B. Du Bois, a leader in the American civil rights movement and a man of Haitian heritage, played a key role in creating the intellectual framework for equality for African-Americans.

Today, Haitian-Americans serve in the United States armed forces, and they represent their communities in state houses and on City Councils around the country. They are prominent scientists and engineers; they are taxi drivers, doctors, nurses and professional athletes. They are public-school teachers and university professors.”

I applaud Mr. Altidor for this reasoned plea, but am afraid it is doomed to failure if it’s goal was to enlighten the Resident, whom has shown no willingness to rid himself of unfounded prejudice.

Folks who can actually read and comprehend the New York Times editorial page, however, will be able to better arm themselves for future debates with MAGA garbage spouting acquaintances with a quick perusal of the piece...
