WASHINGTON -- No promises that he'll join a chorus of "Solidarity Forever," but President Barack Obama is headed to Detroit to speak to thousands of union members for Labor Day celebrations.Metro Detroit AFL-CIO President Saundra Williams said Obama's visit could result in more than 100,000 people participating in the annual Michigan AFL-CIO Labor Day Parade and its associated activities -- nearly twice the typical crowd.
"We're always ready for the president to join us, and we're very pleased that he's coming this year," Williams said.
The President has always had his own unique sense of timing. Coming out of the August recess I believe that we will see more offense in his game and kicking off by speaking to 100,000 union members is a good place to start.
