Last night on Hardball Joan Walsh repeated the currently popular canard that California is under-represented in the electoral college saying if California voters were represented in the electoral college as Wyoming voters are California would have over 200 Electoral Votes.
This is, of course based on Wyoming having approximately 580,000 voters and 3 electoral votes. While California has 39,100,000 (Population figures based on July 2015 estimates) - rounded to nearest 100,000 voters and “only” 55 electoral votes.
(For clarity and round numbers, in my calculations below I will disadvantage Wyoming a bit and say it’s Population is 500,000.)
Joan multiplies 39.1 by 2 (to arrive at how many Wyomings it contains) then multiplies that by Wyoming’s 3 Ev’s and arrives at “over 200”.
Boy are they getting screwed!
Uh, Not so much...
