Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, another of the impressive Democratic Freshman class who represents the South Florida district which houses the Homestead facility for migrant children, represents the best of American values, a value system that was and is and should continue to be a source of pride for Americans, a system that offers safety and shelter for refugees in exchange for the immeasurable gifts and talents they offer our country in return.
Debbie migrated here in 1985 from her native Ecuador with her mother and three sisters at 14 years of age, where she lived with her family in a one bedroom apartment while she complted High School, took a bachelor’s degree from Pitzer College and a Masters in International Political Economy from Claremonte Graduate.
Mucarsel-Powell worked for non-profits like the Hope Center, Zoo Miami Foundation, and the Coral Restoration Foundation.[4][5] From 2003 to 2007, she served as the Director of Development at Florida International University. She was the Associate Vice President for Advancement at FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine from 2007 to 2011.[6] Mucarsel-Powell became an associate dean at the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.[4][5]
Mucarsel-Powell had volunteered for the presidential campaigns of John Kerry and Barack Obama, and in 2016, she ran unsuccessfully against Anitere Flores for the Florida State Senate.[7]Mucarsel-

Yesterday she visited the Children at Homestead.
How many Debbie Mucarsel-Powells now languish in tents in Florida and Texas? How many children who have so much potential are being treated like criminals because of the fear and insecurities of our criminal *Resident and his unworthy-of-the-title “American” followers?
Given the life she has made manifest, Debbie can only weep at the opportunities being lost to her adopted nation.
As do we all.
