Looks like Barbara Underwood is leaving the office in good hands.
“...the prospect of a House of Representatives that has the will and the power to, say, get its hands on his tax returns, likely isn’t the only election-night outcome that has the ex-Miss Universe owner sweating bullets that include trace amounts of Big Macs, Diet Coke, and Jergens Natural Glow. The election of Letitia James as New York’s attorney general is probably also scaring the absolute crap out of him, considering the comments she made to NBC News about how she plans to spend her time in the role, beginning next month.
Speaking to reporter Allan Smith, James said she will be launching a major, sweeping investigation into Trump, his family, and “anyone” in his orbit who might have broken the law. “We will use every area of the law to investigate President Trump and his business transactions, and that of his family as well,” James warned. Among the many Trump threads the attorney general-elect plans to yank are:
The infamous June 2016 Trump Tower meeting with a Russian official, attended by, among others, Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner;
Possible violations of the emoluments clause through Trump’s New York businesses, such as the hotel patronized by the Saudi crown prince’s entourage and the worst restaurant in America;
Allegations of fraud involving the president’s real-estate holdings in New York, outlined by The New York Times, such as starting a company that was a vehicle to “siphon millions of dollars from Fred Trump’s empire by simply marking up purchases already made by his employees” (his lawyer said “there was no fraud or tax evasion by anyone”); and
A continuation of the probe, initiated by James’s predecessor, into the Trump Foundation. (In June, Barbara Underwood sued Trump and all three of his adult children for “persistently illegal conduct” related to the charity.)
James is also looking to change NY’s double jeopardy laws to counter any slimy pardons drumpf may ooze out.
Go get ‘em Madame General.
